OUR APPROACH

Caring for the land, people and communities behind our vanilla

Restoring Madagascar’s Ecosystems

Healthy ecosystems are essential to the future of Madagascar Bourbon vanilla. Our environmental work extends beyond our vanilla plantations, focusing on restoring land affected by fire and supporting the recovery of natural habitats.

Over 200,000 trees planted

We are restoring more than 100 hectares of fire-affected land outside our vanilla plantations. As part of this work, we have planted over 200,000 trees to help rebuild vegetation cover and support biodiversity recovery.

Supporting long-term recovery

Ecosystem restoration takes time. Our work aims to create the conditions for nature to recover, helping protect the soil, provide habitats for wildlife and strengthen the landscape’s resilience to a changing climate.

Responsible Vanilla Cultivation

More than 400,000 vanilla vines are established and continuously maintained through controlled cultivation practices in Atsinanana.
Every vanilla flower is pollinated by hand. Direct plantation oversight allows us to monitor growing conditions and maintain consistent production standards.

Responsible cultivation practices

  • Manual pollination
  • Controlled cultivation
  • Zero prohibited agrochemicals
  • Soil protection and preservation
  • Bonara shade-tree integration
  • Long-term ecosystem stability

Powered by renewable energy

Our operations are 100% solar powered, supporting stable, year-round vanilla production.

Supporting the People Behind Our Vanilla

Responsible vanilla production begins with the people who cultivate, pollinate, harvest and process it. We support formal employment, workforce protection and stable working conditions.

More than 500 permanent employees work across plantation management, processing, quality control and administration. During peak pollination and harvest periods, our operations also provide work for 1,000 seasonal employees.

Responsible employment standards

  • Formal employment contracts
  • Wages above the local market average
  • Full social guarantees
  • Occupational health and safety measures
  • Equal employment opportunities
  • Continuously monitored labour standards

Protecting human rights

Vanileco maintains a strict child labour prevention policy. Our labour standards are continuously monitored and developed in alignment with international compliance requirements.

Traceability Across Every Stage

Our vertically integrated model provides direct oversight of vanilla cultivation and production within one controlled region in Atsinanana, Madagascar.

Vanileco maintains 100% batch traceability through controlled plantation management, continuous operational monitoring and batch-level documentation.

Our traceable vanilla supply chain is supported by:

  • Direct plantation oversight
